Singer comes ahead of Robert Plant, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury in new poll
Editors' frontman Tom Smith has been named as the British singer with the highest vocal range, according to a new report in the Daily Mirror.
The singer, who is currently working on the follow-up to his band's 2013 album The Weight Of Your Love, was named above the likes of Robert Plant, Kate Bush and Freddie Mercury as the British singer with the highest vocal range.
The paper calculated each singer's score based on sheet music data and then took vocal melodies from UK bands and artists and plotted the highest and lowest notes each singer has recorded.
Smith came out on top with a range of 4.75 octaves, just ahead of Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson who was second with 4.25 and Robert Plant who scored 3.92. David Bowie scored 3.58, Kate Bush 3.17 and John Lennon just 2.83.
