Paul McCartney greets fans & signs autographs at the grand re-opening of 363 Oxford Street

Paul McCartney was kind enough to pop in to our new store at 363 Oxford Street earlier this month. Here's what went down...

Fans queued from the small hours on Friday 18th October for a chance to meet Paul McCartney in the flesh at our homecoming event, completing the move of hmv’s flagship London store back to its original location at 363 Oxford Street. There were emotional scenes from some of the dedicated fans, many of who had travelled from overseas. A handful event pitched a tent for the overnight wait!

Lucky winners of our twitter competition got to meet Sir Paul as he kindly agreed to sign autographs for those who managed to grab themselves a wristband. The winners correctly named the song ‘Cut Me Some Slack’ from McCartney’s recent collaboration with ex-Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, produced for Grohl’s Sound City documentary.

Macca thanked the fans for waiting after a busy day for the former Beatle, which also took in a surprise performance in London’s Covent Garden, witnessed by around 2,000 people.

It was also a return of sorts for McCartney, having cut an early demo with the Beatles in the very same building in 1962 before being snapped up by Parlophone and releasing their debut, Please Please Me.
Macca obligingly stayed for an hour for those who braved the cold for a glimpse of one of the world’s most celebrated musicians.
