hmv.com presents... Albums Of 2015: #26 The 1975

Every day during January we’re going to be previewing the albums that are going to be hitting the shelves in 2015. Most will definitely come out, some probably will, and some we really hope finally see the light of day (we’re looking at you Adele…). Today we're looking forward to the second record from The 1975...

A little background…

There’s a reason that a report from Songkick named Manchester foursome The 1975 as the world’s hardest working band in the world, it’s because they tour hard, really hard.

The band began touring in support of their debut album months before it came out in September 2013 and they’re literally only just about to stop. Tomorrow in fact is the date of the last stop on their monumental world trek, just in time for the band to begin thinking about their second record.

The band’s first record was a big success, it sold handsomely and yielded seven singles. Setting them up nicely for album number two, which, by all accounts, has already been written and recorded.

How do we know this? Earlier this month, The 1975 mainman Matt Healy posted the below picture to Instagram, 21 tracks, just over an hour of music. Looks a lot like a second album to us…

What It's Called?

No word on this yet, the band’s debut was self-titled, so they’ll have to think of something else, unless they want to go down the Weezer route, or just call it The 1975 II…

What Will It Sound Like?

From the new songs the band have been debuting live and from ‘Medicine’, the track they gave to Zane Low's Drive: Rescored soundtrack, it doesn’t sound like there will be too many changes.

Lyrically, Healy has said that the band’s “first album was about the pursuit and acquisition of love” and their second album will focus on “the preservation and cultivation of love”. All sounds quite sweet really.

Who's Producing It? Are There Any Big-Name Guests?

No word on either of those yet.

Will It Really Come Out This Year? And When?

All the reports suggest that the album is almost finished so it seems very likely that it’ll drop this year. In fact, Healy has already revealed the planned release date. He wants it to come out as close as they can get it to the exact date in September when their first album was released two years before. By our calculations, that’s Monday 21st September. Mark your calendars…
