hmv.com previews... British Summer Time

For the second summer, British Summer Time descends on Hyde Park for a string of huge gigs. hmv.com will be there to review each night, but to get you ready for the events, that include Arcade Fire, the return of The Libertines and another big appearance from McBusted, here’s our preview of Barclaycard Presents... British Summer Time…

Arcade Fire - July 3rd 2014

The Canadian/Texan juggernaut will follow their debut as Glastonbury headliners with a huge show in Hyde Park, bringing the jaw-dropping production that accompanied their UK shows at Earls Court last month (seriously, it was brilliant, we were there to review it, it’s here). Expect the best of their new album Reflektor along with classics like ‘Wake Up’, ‘Power Out’ and ‘No Cars Go’.

Supporting Cast Includes…

Jake Bugg, Wild Beasts, Future Islands and Band Of Skulls.

Get There Early For…

Future Islands. The oddball dance trio have been drawing rave reviews for their new album Singles and the live shows that have accompanied it have been incendiary. They’re on quite early, but make sure you’re there in time to see them…

Black Sabbath – July 4th 2014

The legendary metallers will make their only UK appearance in 2014 at Hyde Park and have hinted that it could well be the last show they ever play (they’ve said that before though…). Either way, it’ll be a hit-packed set, with the likes of ‘War Pigs’, ‘Paranoid’ and ‘Iron Man’ all blasting out across Hyde Park.

Supporting Cast Includes…

Soundgarden, Faith No More, Motorhead, Soulfly, Gallows, The Hell, Blitz Kids, The Bots, The Struts, The First, Wolfmothter and Broken Hands.

Get There Early For…

Soundgarden. The reunited grunge icons might not have matched their best with their comeback record King Animal, but their back catalogue has got so many damn classics, ‘Spoonman’, ‘Black Hole Sun’, ‘Jesus Christ Pose’, we could go on all day…

The Libertines – July 5th

The indie troublemakers have reunited for a third time for this show and will be bringing the best bits from their beloved Up The Bracket and self-titled records to Hyde Park. Their 2010 reunion was pretty special and frontmen Carl Barat and Pete Doherty have promised that this will be even better…

Supporting Cast Includes…

Spiritualized, The Enemy, The Twang, Maximo Park, Reverend & The Makers, Swim Deep, The Rifles, Lois & The Love, The Jacques, The Pogues, Wolf Alice, Darlia and Cuckoolander.

Get There Early For…

Maximo Park, the Newcastle indie fivesome made a return to form with their album Too Much Information earlier this year and well worth a watch.

McBusted – July 6th

The union of two thirds of Busted and McFly has already seen thousands of tickets fly out the door and will doubtless see Hyde Park be packed out. The UK tour was absolutely spectacular, so we expect this to be just as special, with all the biggest hits from both bands out in force.

Supporting Cast Includes…

Backstreet Boys, The Vamps, Scouting For Girls, Diversity, Mike Dignam, Lawson, F!ve, Wheatus, George Barnett and Joel Baker.

Get There Early For…

Backstreet Boys, they might be well into their second decade as a boyband, but they’ve sure got some hits…

Neil Young & Crazy Horse – July 12th

Singers don’t come much more influential or revered than Neil Young, who is currently touring his 34th studio album! The Canadian rocker is in a noisy mood at the moment and promises to leave Hyde Park drenched in feedback when he delivers his usual epic set.

Supporting Cast Includes...

The National, Lucy Rose, Tom Odell, Half Moon Run, Phosphorescent, Caitlin Rose, Midlake, Flyte, Jack Savoretti, To Kill A King, Hero Fisher and Yellowire.

Get There Early For…

Phosphorescent is the moniker of Matthew Houck, who released his sixth studio album Muchacho, earlier this year. That record, much like his previous efforts, has been warmly received, with its offbeat lyrics, jagged beats and mournful melodies. If you love Bon Iver, Band Of Horses and even early Neil Young, you’ll probably dig this.

Tom Jones – July 13th

Headlining the family day at British Summer Time, which will also features special sets from Horrible Histories’, Shaun The Sheep, Go!Go!Go! and magician Troy, the Welsh legend will be bringing out all of big hits to cap off the festival in style.

Supporting Cast Includes...

Boyzone, Little Mix, 10CC, Bootleg Beatles, Horrible Histories, Go! Go! Go!, Hello Kitty and magician Troy.

Get There Early For…

Little Mix. The girl band made a vast improvement on last year’s Salute, with their R’N’B flecked hits and always put on a good show live.
