hmv.com reviews... I Killed The Prom Queen @ Slam Dunk Festival
All day today (May 25th), hmv.com will be down at Slam Dunk Festival, bringing you reviews from the almighty collision of punk, pop-punk, hardcore, metal and emo. Next up it’s reunited Australian metalcore types I Killed The Prom Queen...
I Killed The Prom Queen, Australian metallers, once split up and splintered, now reunited with a new album named Beloved.
Slam Dunk Festival, in the South. Hatfield to be exact. Outside at the Monster Stage.
Was it full? And how were the crowd?
It was outdoors, so capacity is kind of relative, but the crowd stretched a long way back. Despite the fact that I Killed The Prom Queen were forced to play two hours later than scheduled after their tour bus broke down, they still drew a great reaction from the crowd. It was very sunny, but that didn’t stop the circle pits...
So what was the set like? What did they play?
Six songs, each as heavy and slaying as the last, half combed from their new record Beloved, the others from the days before their split. 'Thirty One & Sevens' sounded particularly badass, as did 'Sharks In Your Mouth' and the closing 'Say Goodbye', which whipped the crowd up into a total frenzy.
Any good between song banter?
Some shout outs to the other bands on the bill, apologies for being late and the usual array of 'Come on, let's do this!'. It suited the occasion very well.
Did they put on much of a show? Any fireworks?
No theatrics, just riffs and heaviness.
What was the set highlight?
It was all killer, but the closer 'Say Goodbye' sounded particulary massive.
Where can I catch them next?
They've got nothing planned for a little while, aside from a summer time show in Texas. But they'll be back soon, we hope...
