hmv.com reviews... Jess Glynne @ Lovebox Festival
Across the weekend, hmv.com will be down at Lovebox Festival in Hackney's Victoria Park to review all the top artists, first up on day two is Jess Glynne...
Jess Glynne, you may not know her name, but you'll know her voice, she sings on Clean Bandit's megahit 'Rather Be'.
Lovebox Festival, on the main stage.
Was it full? And how were the crowd?
It was only just after 3pm, but the turnout was very, very good, with the crowd stretching right the way back. The sun was baking down, so there wasn't a lot of movement, more standing, sitting and appreciating, it suited Jess Glynne's laid-back soulful vibes.
So what was the set like? What did she play?
It was 40 minutes, which must feel like an eternity for a new artist when most of the public has no idea who they are, but Glynne seemed to have more than enough material to keep the crowd happy. 'Home' sounded great, as did her Clean Bandit-less version of 'Rather Be and the closing 'Right Here'. Glynne's material is a mix of classic soul, trip-hop and smart pop, and on this form, her debut album is going to be brilliant.
Any good between song banter?
Lots, Glynne was clearly overjoyed with the turnout and the crowd and said so plenty of times. She also joked about the pounding sunshine, telling the crowd that "gingers don't do well in the sun", she seemed to do okay mind...
Did she put on much of a show?
Not really, just a knuckle-tight band, it was all that was required.
What was the highlight of the set?
It looked all set to be 'Rather Be', but the closing 'Right Here' stole it right at the end, such a tune.
Where can I catch them next?
She's just announced a full UK tour for October, tickets are sure to fly out the door, grab them while you can.
hmv.com will be reviewing Lovebox Festival throughout the weekend, check back for reviews of the likes of The Horrors, BANKS and M.I.A.
