hmv.com reviews... Katy B @ Lovebox Festival

Across the weekend, hmv.com will be down at Lovebox Festival in Hackney's Victoria Park to review all the top artists, first up it's Katy B...

Who?

Katy B, the owner of the point where pop, dubstep and R'N'B meet. Currently touring her new album Little Red (which you can preview on the right-hand side of the page).

Where?

Lovebox Festival, on the main stage.

Was it full? And how were the crowd?

Given they'd been baking in the sweltering heat all afternoon, the crowd were surprisingly lively, especially during '5AM' and 'Perfect Stranger'.

So what was the set like? What did she play?

It was brilliant from beginning to end. She motored straight into 'Hot Like Fire', one of the many highlights from Little Red, before effortlessly sweeping into '5AM'. She then delivered a set that combined the best of her older tracks, like 'On A Mission' and 'Broken Record', which had everybody bouncing, and the newer cuts like 'What Love Is Made Of' and a sassy 'Aaliyah'. Though the energy dipped slightly when she brought out big ballad 'Crying For No Reason', it didn't dull the crowd's mood.

The singer also threw in some crowd pleasing covers, including a superb rendition of Baby D's club classic 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' and Fish Go Deep's 'Cure And The Cause', which went down very well indeed. She finished with a volley of 'Perfect Stranger', which blasted out of the speakers, and 'Lights On'. It was a superb festival set.

Any good between song banter?

Nothing out of the ordinary, lots of geeing up and demanding that the crowd put their hands to the sky, no-one refused.

Did she put on much of a show?

Playing beneath a huge banner bearing her name, Katy was backed by a knuckle tight band and her usual troupe of dancers, it suits the show perfectly.

What was the highlight of the set?

The whole set was a joy, high in energy and big on tunes, but 'On A Mission' was incredible.

Where can I catch them next?

She's got a lot of festivals lined up, including V, Global Gathering and Tramlines. There's also a full UK tour in October. Don't miss out.

hmv.com will be reviewing Lovebox Festival throughout the weekend, check back for reviews of the likes of A$AP Rocky, Chase & Status, BANKS and M.I.A.
