hmv.com reviews... White Lung @ The Great Escape

hmv.com is down on the South Coast as the festival season kicks off with Brighton's new band nirvana The Great Escape. This time we’re reviewing Canadian punks White Lung...

Who?

White Lung, offbeat Canadian power-punks.

Where?

Coalition @ The Great Escape, a club right on the seafront.

Was it full? And how were the crowd?

Not stuffed full, but pretty darn full, there were no gaps to be seen, put it that way.

So what was the set like?

Incredible, all power and drive, songs that are underpinned by pounding drums, riffs coated in dirge and singer Mish Way's distinctly deranged delivery. Imagine Hole smashed together with Sleater Kinney, Bikini Kill and The Cramps, it's brilliant.

Any good between song banter?

Loads, singer Mish Way the kind of frontwoman who you can't take your eyes off, and doesn't disapoint with her between song anecdotes, a mixture of baiting the crowd and joking around. She's an incredible frontwoman.

What was the highlight of the set?

The whole set sounded electric, but new single ‘Drown The Monster’ kicked off the show and rocketed out of the speakers.

Where can I catch them next?

The band are in Bristol tonight and then back in London next week. Full details can be found here.
