hmv reviews... Modern Baseball @ Slam Dunk Festival

All day today (May 25th), hmv.com will be down at Slam Dunk Festival, bringing you reviews from the almighty collision of punk, pop-punk, hardcore, metal and emo. We kick things off with alt rockers Modern Baseball.

Who?

Modern Baseball. Philadelphia slacker punks.

Where?

Slam Dunk Festival, in the South. Hatfield to be exact. Over on the Atticus Stage.

Was it full? And how were the crowd?

The room was as full as full gets, with punters craning their necks to get a better view of the stage from outside the room.

So what was the set like? What did they play?

A focused, distilled half an hour, full of all the best moments from their new album You’re Gonna Miss It All and their earlier tracks. New single ‘The Weekend’, ‘Fine, ‘Great’ and the colossal ‘Broken Cash Machine’, it all sounded glorious.

Any good between song banter?

Bits and pieces, the foursome went clearly overjoyed by the turnout and played a suitably joyful set.

Did they put on much of a show? Any fireworks?

When you play at 2.45pm at a festival, you have to keep production to a minimum. It suited them very well, low-key, nothing but the music.

What was the set highlight?

'The Weekend', it drew huge cheers and had the crowd singing along in loud voice.

Where can I catch them next?

They'll be back on these shores in December. Make sure you catch them then.

hmv.com will be at Slam Dunk Festival across the weekend, stay tuned for more reviews and interviews.
