hmv's Next Big Thing... #109 Maggie Rogers

Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Pharrell protege Maggie Rogers...

Who Is She?

If you've heard of Maggie Rogers, it's probably for one reason only. Taking part in a masterclass at the Clive Davis Institute in New York with super producer Pharrell Williams, she played him her new composition 'Alaska' and, as he sits there and listens, he is almost brought to tears. Since then the track has been played almost three million times on YouTube and saw excitement around Rogers ramp right up.

Who Does She Sound Like?

Trippy hip-hop beats and ethereal vocals, imagine Bat For Lashes with a lot more swagger, that's about the size of it.

Why Should I Be Excited?

Her tracks have a swaying hypnotic vibe to them, it's intense, but strangely calming at the same time.

Can I Hear Something?

Indeed. You can check out 'Alaska' below and pick up her early singles here in our digital store.
