hmv's Next Big Thing... #22 Blossoms
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you psychedelic upstarts Blossoms...
Who Are They?
Blossoms hail from Stockport and formed back in 2013. After a fair few gigs, the band caught the eye of The Coral mainman James Skelly, who invited the band to release their debut single on his own Skeleton Key Records. Since then it's been bigger and bigger gigs, support slots with the likes of The Orwells and James. Now they're readying their debut album and they've announced their biggest UK tour to date, which you can find details of here.
Who Do They Sound Like?
This is classic psychedelia, think early Pink Floyd sitting in a circle with Frank Zappa and Magical Mystery Tour era Beatles. For more modern references, think The Coral and their jangly riffs and the sunny choruses of The La's. Happier than Tame Impala and far less intense than The Horrors.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Because they write incredible groove-laden tracks full of swagger and wonder. They're great live too.
Can I Hear Something?
Sure you can. Their latest single 'Cut Me And I'll Bleed' is below for you and available here in our digital store.
