hmv's Next Big Thing... #23 Sunflower Bean
Every Wednesday we recommend a brand new artist who we think you're going to love. This week we bring you Sunflower Bean and their dark, dark psychedelia...
Who Are They?
Brooklyn trio Sunflower Bean hail from Upstate New York and play the kind of dark, moody psychedelia that's grounded firmly in the heady days of the late 60s and early 70s. Consisting of singer/bassist Julia Cumming, vocalist/guitarist Nick Kivlen and drummer Jacob Faber, they've just finished their debut European run.
Who Do They Sound Like?
The band aren't shy about their influences (they even have a song called 'Tame Impala' on their debut EP), this is late Beatles, early Pink Floyd, Can, Black Sabbath My Bloody Valentine, Teardrop Explodes and Kyuss all chucked in the same heady brew. It's a trip.
Why Should I Be Excited?
Every tune has a massive groove and a power that you only find in the psychedelia.
Can I Hear Something?
Of course. Their jam 'I Hear Voices' is below for you and you can pick up their EP Show Me Your Seven Secrets here.
