hmv tips for 2014…James Bay

Every day throughout January we're going to be introducing you to a new act who we think are going to everywhere in 2014. Today it’s the turn of troubadour James Bay and his rootsy soul-influenced folk.

Who Is He?

James Bay is a 22-year old singer-songwriter who hails from the humble beginnings of Hitchin. He's been gigging for the last couple of years and has released a couple of much-liked EPs, with a debut album now on the way in 2014.

Who Does He Sound Like?

He's managed by the same people who have helped mastermind James Morrison's career and that's probably not a bad place to start. There's something rawer about Bay though, something more earthy and bluesy, there's plenty of Bob Dylan in there, splashes of Fleetwood Mac and lots of Simon and Garfunkel too.

Why Should I Be Excited?

We caught an intimate London in late 2013 and he was extraordinary, full of passion and with a voice that absolutely cut through the chatter of a sweaty pub basement. Catch him live as soon as you can.

Can I Hear Something?

You most certainly can, Bay's new single 'Move Together' is below for you and you can also preview his EP 'The Dark Of The Morning' by clicking on the icon on the right of the page.
