Lionel Richie confirmed for Glastonbury 2015

Legendary crooner Lionel Richie has been confirmed to play at next summer's Glastonbury Festival.

The singer, who released his 10th studio album Tuskegee back in 2012, will play the Pyramid Stage stage on the final day of the festival, a slot previously taken by the likes of Neil Diamond and Dolly Parton. It will be his first ever festival appearance in the UK.

Speaking about the slot, Richie said: "I'm really excited to play Glastonbury next year as it's one of the most iconic festivals in the world. It has a phenomenal history and the alumni of artists who have previously played is incredible so I'm honoured to be joining that club. It will be a really special moment for me and I can't wait to share it with everyone. I can now say 'Yes, I'm playing Glastonbury.'"

Next summer's festival has only seen a handful of artists confirmed, with Richie easily the most high-profile. None of the headliners have been confirmed as yet, but Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Elton John have each linked with a slot at the top of the bill on the Pyramid Stage.

Organiser Michael Eavis has already ruled out both Queen and Fleetwood Mac from headlining the event.

Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 24th to 28th next sumer.
