My Record Collection by Annie Eve

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of rising singer-songwriter Annie Eve, who is about to release her debut album Sunday 91, let's see what she picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"The first record I bought as a musician was a 3 disc Bob Dylan record. I'd heard what I could find, but I wanted to expand what I knew, and I was really drawn in."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Most music I heard made me want to be a musician, especially music that had a focus on the lyrical content. Anything that moved me, made me want to write. Most of my favourites weren't bands, but songwriters.. (Cash, Mitchell, Dylan).. The first band I remember hearing was Green day. I think I had a fascination with bands with heavy aesthetics; (The Clash, Ramones, Led Zeppelin..). But I think, when I heard Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins, it became the record that changed things for me."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"It's impossible to say for certain. At this point, probably Warpaint's The Fool."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"To feel good, I stick on Lykke Li's Wounded Rhymes. Heavy Hooks and Beats."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I like to tap into some Angus and Julia Stone 'Down The Way'.. This record was a gift from a good friend. And it stayed with me in a lot of ways. 'Big Jet Plane' got me through some tough times for sure. Can't lose with some Elliott Smith 'Roman Candle' either though."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Chad Vangaalen's Soft Airplane. It’s a beautiful record, that I’ve listened to many times, and has stayed with me. Not nearly enough people have heard it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"It’s hard to choose, because a lot of the time I feel the love of the music heavily influences how you feel about the physical representation of it, but probably a draw between; Fleet Foxes' Helplessness Blues and Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I think it has to be Nirvana 'Nevermind' .. Simple, to the point.. and all encapsulating."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Well this is just asking for trouble. I think people have a right to love what they want..."

The last record I bought was…

"Warpaint 'Warpaint'… Waited an age, it was worth it."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"I heard Fleet Foxes are releasing soon. So, can't wait to hear that."

The greatest record of all time is…

"That's just impossible to say."

Annie Eve's debut album Sunday 91 will be released on August 11th. You can pre-order it in store now.
