My Record Collection by Anti-Flag's Justin Sane

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Anti-Flag mainman Justin Sane, he's picked out some punk rock gems...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"That was Meet The Beatles by The Beatles. I was in first grade. I saved my pennies for a long time to buy my first record. I didn't know what it would be as I walked the aisles at the record shop. My ultimate decision was one of the best of my life. This record is The Beatles at their rock'n'roll best!!!"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Tell Us The Truth by Sham 69. Side B is live and starts with Jimmy Pursey saying, "This songs all about... getting your head kicked in." Then the guitar rips into a riff and the air electrifies. When I heard this record for the first time I knew that being in a band would be a serious adventure. I couldn't wait!!!"

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Damaged by Black Flag. A really dynamic record. It has everything!!! It was the sound track to my life for a lot of years!"

The record that always make me feel good is…

"The Choice Of A New Generation by Fifteen. Fifteen wrote some killer punk rock love songs! It's The End Of The Summer ranks among the best!!! "When I'm alone, I dream of the summer you and I had not much else except for each other."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I Used To Be So Young by The Homeless Gospel Chior. Derek Zanetti always brings a smile to my face - even when he's singing about the rotten state of affairs."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Change Is A Sound by Strike Anywhere. Brilliant lyrics and song writing is backed up by a band that fully delivers. Much like The Shape Of Punk To Come by Refused, years from now people will wake up to Change Is A Sound by Strike Anywhere and realise that they missed something really special."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"NOFX And Out Come The Wolves Dookie by World's Scariest Police Chases. Takes 3 all time classics and wraps them up into one hilarious record cover.  Sheer genius."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Talking Poetry with the Tax Man by Billy Bragg. Billy Bragg is simply one of the most clever artists of the day."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"To be honest. I can't think of anything worth mentioning."

The last record I bought was…

"The Best of Benny Goodman. I love swing jazz and Benny is one of the best!"

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"The coming Refused record! Great band! I know they won't disappoint."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Never Mind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols. Start to finish, this record rips!!! Great riffs, lyrics and incredible vocals. Only great songs on this record. If you don't get it, get your head checked."
