My Record Collection by Bayside's Anthony Raneri

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Bayside frontman Anthony Raneri, he's got a lot of love for Nirvana and The Smiths...

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

“Green Day’s Dookie. Great simple songs, the kind that didn’t sound too hard to figure out.”

The record I've played more than any other is…

“Nirvana – Nevermind. It was always, always on growing up."

The record that always make me feel good is…

“Ben Folds’ Rockin The Suburbs is a good one, that always puts me in a good way. It’s a carefree record, it has this fun whimsical nature.”

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

“This is such a clichéd answer, but any Smiths record really. Cliches are clichés for a record.”

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

“The Toy Dolls, maybe Absurd-Ditties. To me The Toy Dolls are everything that’s great about punk rock. I don’t think they get nearly enough credit.”

The record with my favourite cover art is…

“I love the cover of Weezer’s Pinkerton, it’s just really striking and beautiful. It’s not a cool record cover, like London Calling, but to me it’s a wonderful piece of art.”

The record with my favourite title is…

“Again, I’d go with Nevermind, it’s a great one-word title, it’s genre-defining and generation defining. It sums up so much.”

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

“Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction, I don’t get it, there’s just so much better stuff. I’ve spent my whole life being told that this is the best album ever and it just does nothing for me.”

The last record I bought was…

“The new Menzingers record Rented World. They’re my favourite new band of the last five years.”

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

“If there’s a new Brand New record, that’s what the thing I want to hear the most.”

The greatest record of all time is…

“Nirvana – Nevermind. It’s still just the most incredible record.”

Bayside's new album Cult is out now and can be previewed on the right of the page.
