My Record Collection by Blank Realm's Daniel Spencer

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Blank Realm's Daniel Spencer, let's see what he's got for us...

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"This is Harsh 70s Reality by the Dead C. I heard their incredibly unique way of playing together and I wanted to be in a band like that."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"This is Blonde on Blonde by Bob Dylan. Not the most original selection, but I've gone back to this so many times over the years. There's so much to decode and it's always taking on new means."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Hejira by Joni Mitchell. The atmosphere of romantic yearning, and the cocaine jazziness of this album always puts me in a good mood."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is...

"Sibylle Baier - Color Green - This is so wisful and melancholy that it sometimes feels like it's too much. A true treasure though. An album for the rainiest days, for that sadness beyond sadness."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Like Flies on Sherbert by Alex Chilton. I don't understand why this isn't remembered as a great rock album alongside White Light, White Heat or Exile on Main Street."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"On the Beach by Neil Young. It kind of says everything about the tone of the album. It feels like the end of the 60s and the end of the Californian dream. I love it."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Trapdoor Fucking Exit by the Dead C."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I don't want to be a hater. Music is a very personal thing and I don't want to go dissing something that might mean something to somebody."

The last record I bought was…

"High by Royal Headache. I had high hopes for this one, and they were met and exceeded. The fellas delivered."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"I'll say the debut from Terrible Truths."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Sings by Patty Waters. You will never forget hearing the second side on this one."

Blank Realm's new album Illegals In Heaven is out now and avaiable to preview and purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
