My Record Collection by Cerrone

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of French disco maestro Cerrone, let's see what's in his record box...

You can check out some of Cerrone's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Santana's Soul Sacrifice. I learned to play drums with this record. I played it a lot with different when performing with bands from the age of 13 until 16."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Chicago. I always loved their orchestrations, especially the brass arrangements which were just amazing. It has been a major inspiration for all my albums."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Pink Floyd (almost every album). I loved the covers, the atmosphere. Another great inspiration for my work."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Elton John's Captain Fantastic. I had the luck to meet Elton in Trident Studios back in 1976. My first four albums were recorded there and for Love In C Minor, we shared the studio with Elton."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I'd say Sade's Diamond Life. Nothing better for me when I'm feeling blue."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"All Barry White’s albums because the arrangements, the strings, the lyrics are just so sexy. This was also a big influence for me."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Santana's Supernatural. This cover is beautiful and is in the continuity of everything he released from the beginning of his career. Even if this album is much more pop-oriented than the others it's still remarkably well produced."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I'd choose Prince's 1999. Prince is definitely one of the major artists of the last 50 years. 1999 just blew me up the first time I listened to it!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Anything by New Kids on the Block. Never been a great fan of boys bands, with a very few exceptions."

The last record I bought was…

"Michael Bublé's Nobody But Me.  I just love everything with Michael Bublé, his voice, the style, the orchestrations. It's just excellent!"

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"Maroon 5's new album. It's always surprising. I love the compositions, the voices, the ideas…"

The greatest record of all time is…

"Michael Jackson's Thriller. He was definitely the Mozart or the Beethoven of 20th century pop music. This album is a pure jewel. Such an amazing creative work, the best you could find in modern music imho. No wonder he's inspired so many artists and producers so far and continues to do so."

Cerrone's new album Red Lips is out now and available to purchase here in hmv's online store.
