My Record Collection by Cloud Nothings’ Dylan Baldi

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Cleveland indie types Cloud Nothings and their frontman Dylan Baldi, let's see what's in his collection...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

“I think it was something by They Might Be Giants, probably Lincoln, I used to really like that band and I kind of still do.”

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

“It’s a hard one, because every record kind of does. I think it was just music, nothing specific, finder the smaller records by the smaller ones, proving that it wasn’t so untouchable.”

The record I've played more than any other is…

“Probably something by The Wipers, Youth Of America I think, I’ve not played it for a while, but I played it to death for a long time.”

The record that always make me feel good is…

"There's guy called Hopeton Lewis, the record's called Take It Easy, it's just a really good reggae record."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"There's a record by Phil Ochs, it's him live in concert which I'm always seem to go to, I'm not sure why, it's a great live record."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"The soundtrack to the movie Forbidden Planet, I never hear anybody talk about it, but it's really great synthy soundtrack, more people should hear it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Deep Purple's Fireball, it's their heads in a fireball, what else do you need?"

The record with my favourite title is…

"I like record's that are called things like 'Live', when they aren't actually live at all. Anyone lying about their record."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I don't want to answer this question really, everyone thinks I'm too mean already. Maybe Pink Floyd, never really got into it, never got that band. Missed that boat."

The last record I bought was…

"It was by this guy called Alan Silva and it's called Skillfulness, it's this jazz record and it's just wild."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"My friend John makes records under the name Outer Space and I can't wait to hear that."

The greatest record of all time is…

"It's Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy, no one will ever make a better rock record than that."
