My Record Collection by Crown The Empire's Andy Velasquez

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Texan post hardcore types Crown The Empire and their singer Andy Velasquez, let's see what he's got...

You can check out a playlist with some of Andy's picks below...

The record that made me want to be in a band was...

"Green Day's American idiot. It was the first album I could listen to all the way through, and sort of developed a culture between young people who were my age. Everyone I knew had the guitar tab book."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Probably Green Day's American Idiot, I spent so much time trying to figure out how every note was played, that I've probably heard every song about ten jillion times."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"The 1975's first record is always easy listening, you can play it in any setting and no one would be bummed."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Any of the emo Drake stuff, I know it's kind of cliche, but he definitely has a way of doing hip-hop that people can really relate to."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Bad Suns' first record is so good! I'm not familiar with how well they're doing but every song is an absolute banger."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Right now I'd have to say our own. Being a part of a collaborative effort to get to the final product was wild, but coming to a consensus between all of us is rare, and it's pretty tight."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Take Off Your Pants And Jacket by Blink-182 is probably my favorite because it was the first naughty sounding record I bring to school and jam in class."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

" I never went through a classic rock phase, so there isn't a specific record that comes to mind, but I just skipped over that whole thing."

The last record I bought was…

"Views by Drake! Like I said before he's got a cool way of approaching hip hop, and I'm obviously stoked that the album was more along the lines of his emo s**t."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"My dude Post Malone is putting out his first full length and I'm super excited for it. We were in living in LA recording our albums at the same time, and just seeing what kind of crazy musicianship was going on over there got me stoked on making my music."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Third Eye Blind's self titled definitely takes the cake. I feel like it doesn't explanation. I'll just say these words. 'Jumper', 'Graduate', 'Semi Charmed Life', and those aren't even the best songs on the album."

Crown The Empire's new album Retrogade is out now and available to preview and purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
