My Record Collection by Eric Benet

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of soul man Eric Benet, let's dive in...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is Bobby Pickett's 'Monster Mash'. I just remember this being a compilation record And I enjoyed 'Monster Mash' the best."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Earth, Wind & Fire's 'That's Way of the World. This is one of my all-time favourite bands and I love this record."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Steve Wonder's Inner/Visions. I've played this record more than any other, I simply love everything about it."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Shalamar's 'Night To Remember'. What a great dance-pop record, and still holds up to this day."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Miles Davis's Sketches Of Spain. I love Miles Davis and that’s a beautiful record, its music and all about feeling."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Caren Wheeler's Beach Of The War Goodness. This entire record has an incredible vibe, not many people in the States knew about this, but I love it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Ohio Players. I like the creative artwork, the authentic out of the box visuals, choose any record."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Jagged Little Pill. Simply stated but so cool."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I don't listen to mumble rap. All I know is people seem to enjoy it...I don't know why.

The last record I bought was…

"It was London Philharmonic's take on Beethoven 9th symphony. I like classical music, and I was doing some research for a project."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"I just want to hear something new inspiring. I'm not sure who has new music coming, but I would love to hear a new Sting album."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life. This is my favourite record of all time. Stevie was in a zone and captured pure magic on that album."

Eric Benet's new self-titled album is released on October 27th.
