My Record Collection by Escape The Fate's Kevin "Thrasher" Gruft

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of post-hardcore types Escape The Fate and their guitarist Kevin "Thrasher" Graft, let's see what he's chosen...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This was a cassette tape actually and it was Dookie by Green Day!"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"This is Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsy's. This is a live album so hearing Jimi interact with the crowd and his band, was something I loved. I wanted to be in a band and command the audience and a group like that."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"This is Best of Van Halen Volume 1. This record inspired a lot of my guitar playing. My dad bought it for me, and it has some of the essential Halen songs that any fan needs to hear. Starting off with Eruption, this record blew my mind as a young guitarist."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Michael Jackson's Thriller. This doesn't even need a long explanation because anything by Michael Jackson is Platinum. But on a personal note Jackson was one of the first artists from a very early age that hooked me. That's probably why I always go back and forth between very heavy metal and pop music. I always admired his ability to cross genres."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Peter Gabriel - So. No explanation needed."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"For this I have to say Refused's The Shape Of Punk to Come."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"My dad has the original Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers with the real zipper, pretty great one!"

The record with my favourite title is…

"This Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I'm going to say a song.. And it's OMI - 'Cheerleader', this song is so overplayed and gives me the worst feeling when it comes on. It's terrible, I don't know why it's Top 40."

The last record I bought was…

"Drones by Muse. I'm a big fan of Muse and I actually really love the direction they went with this record. It's certainly more riff driven and a bit heavier than their previous releases."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

This is going to sound very self-serving, but truly is it our new record Hate Me. I still haven't gotten the vinyl edition so I'm really excited to listen to the whole thing front to back."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Easy one. Michael Jackson's - Thriller. It's the best."

Escape The Fate's new album Hate Me is out now and available to preview and purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
