My Record Collection by Gavin James

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of singer-songwriter Gavin James to have his say...

Check out a selection of Gavin's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I was 10 years old when Blink-182's Take off Your Pants on CD and is probably the earliest album I remember buying."

The record that made me want to be in an artist was…

"To be honest I think the record that made me want to play music was Bob Dylan’s The Freewheelin. That album had a huge effect, the timelessness of that music."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Pearl Jam's Ten became my go to album when I first discovered it. Ten is the definition of a classic album, it’s a vital rock album that still people reference and go back to this day."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Frank Sinatra's Come Fly With Me. Such a classic..."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Regina Spektor is a smart songwriter and her album Begin To Hope proves that!"

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"So many seem to fall through the net so plenty to choose from I’ll have to go with Teitur's Poetry and Aeroplanes."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Red Hot Chilli Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik, love the cover, the album artwork wins hands down for me."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I'd say Bon Iver’s debut album For Emma Forever Ago. I’m a big Bon Iver fan and this album is just great. If you don’t own this record, get it, you won’t regret it."

The last record I bought was…

"It was Kacey Musgraves' Same Trailer Different Park."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"Coldplay’s new EP! I am very excited or this."

The greatest record of all time is…

"The ultimate record for me has to be The Beatles' Sgt Pepper. It’s an iconic album, everything from the cover art to the music."

Gavin James' debut album Bitter Pill is out now and available to purchase here in hmv's online store.
