My Record Collection by Greywind's Paul O'Sullivan

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Greywind's Paul O'Sullivan, let's see what he picks out...

Check out a selection of Paul's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is HIStory by Michael Jackson. I grew up with my parents playing Michael Jackson all the time and he then became one of my favourite artists. I listened to this album a crazy amount of times when I was younger and I always remember having 'Earth Song' and 'You Are Not Alone' on repeat. I haven't listened to it in ages so I definitely need to change that."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I'd say From Under The Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy. Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance were the two bands that made me want to be in a band when I was younger. I got into FOB first and I remember playing From Under The Cork Tree non stop the first summer I heard it. 'Sugar We're Going Down' was one of the first songs I learned on guitar too so this was definitely one of the albums that made me want to be in a band."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I'll say Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. It's such an incredible album and I still listen to it all the time. It has everything I love about music in it, from the dark imagery to how dramatic it sounds. It's definitely one of my favourite albums."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Put on Tell All Your Friends by Taking Back Sunday and I'll instantly feel good because I'll be singing along at the top of my lungs!"

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This is Clarity by Jimmy Eat World. This album has so many beautiful songs on it and is definitely one to put on when you just want to relax and drift away for a while."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I'll choose Masterpiece Theatre by Marianas Trench. This is one of my favourite pop rock albums and I alway remember being blown away by it the first time I heard to it. There's no filler on this album and every song is so fun and catchy and it's definitely one of the most underrated albums I've heard."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Grand Unification by Fightstar. It has such an epic cover and makes you need to hear the album. The artwork was created by an artist named Daniel Conway and when we got to the stage when we needed to start getting the artwork for our album ready, he was our first choice artist in the world and we were lucky enough to hear that he wanted to work with us too! So it was incredible to have the artist who created one of our favourite covers, create the artwork for our album cover and each song on our album as well."

The record with my favourite title is…

"This is The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me by Brand New. I love album titles that make you want to listen to them even if you haven't heard the band before. Even if Brand New weren't one of my favourite bands, I know I'd listen to this album from just the title alone."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I'm not sure, I think I'm too busy still listening to all the classic emo records from when I was younger to know about what anyone else is listening too!"

The last record I bought was…

"This was Blush by Moose Blood. When we were filming the video for our song 'Car Spin' in Los Angeles last summer they had just released the song 'Knuckles' and I remember listening to it non stop every day while we were over there. There's so many incredible songs on this album and it was one of my favourites of 2016."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"A new album from Brand New.... hopefully! 2017 could possibly be the year when we get a new album from them. I really hope it is cause I'm looking forward to hearing their follow up to Daisy."

The greatest record of all time is…

"This is a question I can never answer because what my favourite album is changes daily. Three albums that have inspired me the most throughout the years have been Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me by Brand New and Clarity by Jimmy Eat World, so for me personally, they would be three of the ones that would definitely be up there fighting for my greatest record of all time position!"
