My Record Collection by Jack Savoretti

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of troubadour Jack Savoretti, who's about to release his new album Written In Scars, let's see what he's got for us...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Ali Farka Toure & Ry Cooder - Talking Timbuktu. They say you should never judge a book by its cover, but I chose this record because I loved the cover, and it turned out to be an incredible album..."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills & Nash. I had never heard anything like this before, it was psychedelic but romantic and the same time. The harmonies, the guitar playing and lyrics combined came with such a force I was floored the from the first listen."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Graceland by Paul Simon. I went traveling around Europe in my late teens and it was the only cassette I had with me, I can't stop smiling every time I hear this record, it will never get old to me."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Any J.J. Cale album. There is something about JJ Cale that is so uniquely cool, there is always a groove to his songs, even the ballads have got rhythm."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Metamodern Sounds in Country Music by Sturgill Simpson. This came out last year and I can't stop playing it. It's become a good friend."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"That would be Half Moon Run's Dark Eyes."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Ali Farka Tour & Ry Cooder - Finding Timbuktu, I bought it because of the cover."

The record with my favourite title is…

"That would be Solid Air by John Martin."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I genuinely can’t hum you one tune by One Direction though they are supposed to be the biggest band in the world."

The last record I bought was…

"Rhodes - Home EP."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"Half Moon Run or Sturgill Simpson’s new albums… I hear they are working on new albums."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Graceland by Paul Simon."
