My Record Collection by Joyce Manor's Barry Johnson

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Joyce Manor mainman Barry Johnson, let's see what he's got for us...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Ace of Base's The Sign. I won money gambling at a bar my mom worked at and with my winnings bought that."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Operation Ivy's Energy. My first band was 100% Op Ivy rip off."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Beach Boy's Pet Sounds."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Algernon Cadwallader's Some Kind of Cadwallader. Total classic!"

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Guided by Voices - Alien Lanes"

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Underground Railroad To Candyland's Bird Roughs is insanely underrated. Sounds like nothing else on earth."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Big Star's Radio City."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Yo La Tengo  - I'm not afraid of you and I will beat your ass."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Husker Du's Zen Arcade. I just don't get it."

The last record I bought was…

"Patti Smith's Horses. Pretty cool."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"Winter Break's new record. The demos I've heard so far are totally mind blowing."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Beach Boys - Pet Sounds. It has to be."
