My Record Collection by Judge Jules

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of superstar Judges Jules, let's see what's in his crates...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"That would be Style Council – 'Long Hot Summer'. This was the first time a tune brought out the romantic in me."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I'll pick The Clash – 'London Calling'. The ultimate homage to my city made all the more poignant now it's played when Arsenal come out of the tunnel at the Emirates."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"This is Da Hool – Meet Her At The Love Parade. A quirky and rather batty tune that guarantees a scream and a smile from everyone in the crowd."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Roy Ayers – Everybody Loves the Sunshine. Glass of Pimms in hand, perfect for the British summer."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Gwen Guthrie – 'Peanut Butter'. Chilling vocal and equally dark musical mood from one of the greatest divas of all time.

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I'll choose Brainbug – 'Nightmare'. Pure orchestral dancefloor campness."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Anything by The Chemical Brothers. Whoever did their artwork clearly took their Chemicals very seriously."

The record with my favourite title is…

"'Sex and Drugs and Rock’N'Roll'. Say no more."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I'll say Blur – 'Parklife'. I find this one more than mildly irritating."

The last record I bought was…

"I downloaded John Lennon's 'Imagine'. I get sent most of my stuff as promos and I realised that I didn’t own a copy. A bit of a glaring omission."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"I'll say Eats Everything feat. Tiga/Audion – 'Dancing Again'. Absolute festival rocker."

The greatest record of all time is…

"My pick for this is Nightwriters – 'Let The Music Use You'. The defining track from the defining era that was acid house."
