My Record Collection by Kate Jackson

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Kate Jackson, once singer with The Long Blondes, now preparing to release her solo album, let's see what she chooses...

You can check out some of Kate's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Madonna - Like A Prayer. Still a brilliant pop record and definitely her finest moment."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"This is The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers. "1,2,3,4,5,6 dun dun dun Road Runner, Road Runner" What's better than that?"

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I'd probably Led Zeppelin III. It's my driving through Suffolk album."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"I'll choose David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust. The first Bowie record I ever heard, whilst kissing in the front of my first proper boyfriend's car - a Ford Fiesta called Kurt the car (after Cobain)."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This is Lee Hazlewood - Cowboy In Sweden. It's sad and silly and beautiful and gives you a hug all at the same time."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Anything by Shocking Blue. Great band. Mariska Veres has my favourite voice of all time."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"I'd say Suede - Suede. It's perfect."

The record with my favourite title is…

"The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead. Who would't buy it?"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks. I just don't get Bob Dylan, sorry..."

The last record I bought was…

"This was Parquet Courts - Human Performance. Super cool, I think it sounds like The Modern Lovers."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"This was was PJ Harvey - The Hope Six Demolition Project."

The greatest record of all time is…

The Beatles - The Best Of The Beatles! (Ask a stupid question, get an Alan Partridge quote...)

Kate Jackson's debut solo album British Road Movies is released on Friday (May 20th) and available to purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
