My Record Collection by Le Youth

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of dance producer Le Youth, let's see what he chooses...

Check out a selection of Le Youth's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I think it must have been Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking. I remember spending hours at the record store in the mall, sifting through every CD in the rock section."

The record that made me want to be a DJ was…

"There wasn't a record that made me want to be a DJ. In fact, as much as I love doing it now, I never wanted to be a DJ. Though there were a few influential records that got me into dance music. Calvin Harris - Flashback as a big one for me. I don't tell a lot of people that."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Other than my own records, I probably play Lykki Li - I Follow Rivers the most."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Corona - Rhythm of the Night (Blonde remix) always does it for me. Everybody knows that song."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"When I'm not in a good mood, I like to put on a bit of Bob Marley. Can't beat Legend."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"The most underrated of all time, I can't answer. Off the top of my head Zac Samuel - Never Letting Go is the maybe the most underrated of 2016. All the Alphabeat records should have been massive- it makes no sense to me."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Sebastian Tellier - Sexuality is a great record and cover. Crystal Castles self titled cover art is cool too as is Grace Jones - Island Life."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I'd say Boys Noize - Oi Oi Oi!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"David Guetta - Pop Life. I never listened to it, but the cover art and title are so embarrassing!"

The last record I bought was…

"The last album I bought was Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea on vinyl. This was a hugely influential record for me. It came out in 1998. It took 15 years to make sense to me, but now a feel a deep connection to it."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"I'm excited to hear the new Goldroom record. He always impresses me."

The greatest record of all time is…

"It is Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea. An absolute masterpiece."

Le Youth's new single If You're Leaving is out now and available here in hmv's digital store.
