My Record Collection by Little Boots

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Little Boots, let's see what gems she's got for us...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was...

The first Take That album from Blackpool hmv. It was mainly due to peer pressure as all the other girls at school had it, but it's actually full of great pop songs, I still think Gary is a brilliant songwriter."

The record that made me want to be in a band was...

"The Killers - Mr Brightside. It used to get played at our local indie disco at University and I just thought if there could be a female fronted version of that it would be amazing, like the Killers fronted by Debbie Harry."

The record I've played more than any other is...

"It would be a fight between Kylie's Body Language and Madonna's Like A Virgin or maybe even Ray of Light. I never get tired of their hits, they are studies in pop writing perfection and I could analyse them forever and still never learn all their secrets."

The record that always make me feel good is...

"Any Bossa Nova, its my holiday music it just sounds like sunshine, especially anything by Jobim, ‘Wave’ is one of my favourites. I have great memories of visiting Brazil and this always reminds me of it, its so nostalgic sounding."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is...

"Joni Mitchell - Blue. It's so beautiful but so heart wrenching, however you’re feeling listening to Joni Mitchell always makes you feel like someone else understands and totally gets what you’re going through, like she’s been there and done that and is going to help you see it through."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is...

"Heartbreak - Lies. They were one of my favourite bands a few years ago and supported me on my first proper tour, true italo disco with a dark side, the world just wasn’t ready for it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Kate Bush - Lionheart. I love that she manages to dress up in a not particularly convincing lion costume for the cover of her second album but still get taken completely seriously."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Fiona Apple - When the pawn…. etc. I was obsessed with this album as a piano playing teenager just getting brave enough to sing. I loved her lyrics and couldn’t get over the actual full title for this album which is probably too long to print here."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Johnny Cash, if I had to pick one then the one at the prison? It's just not for me I’m afraid."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"I’m really excited for the next Lorde album which will hopefully be this year, I think she’s such an exciting and confident popstar so wise beyond her years she blows my mind. I heard she’s working with some really interesting people like Disclosure and she’s been listening to Robyn which can only be a good things for pop."

The last record I bought was…

"Probably music for my DJ set, I’m constantly looking for new tunes. I rarely buy whole dance albums, but I did just listen to the new George Fitzgerald."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Abba - The Visitors. It was their last album and is a lot more experimental in the production than many people would guess, its also tinged with a real sadness that comes through despite all the shiny soaring pop melodies. It's a true classic. I have a signed copy to me from Benny on the wall in my studio."

Little Boots' new album Working Girl is out now and available to preview and purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
