My Record Collection by Louis Mattrs

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of rising R'n'B star Louis Mattrs. Let's take a journey...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"It was either 'Justified' by Justin Timberlake or 'Confessions' by Usher. Both albums were bangers."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"'Teenage Dirtbag' by Wheatus had me jumping up and down while shredding the air guitar... I tell myself I was joking, but I definitely wasn't."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"'Senorita' by Justin Timberlake is my go-to tune."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"'Move On Up' by Curtis Mayfield. I remember going on a night out the day before a Uni exam (not the greatest idea), and in the morning I was severely hungover. My friend came running into the room whilst blaring Move On Up out of his phone, it put me in the best of moods and got me through my exam."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"James Blake's version of Joni Mitchelle's 'A Case Of You' is a great song to listen to when feeling sad. Or you could put 'Blue' by Eiffel 65 on as I'm sure that will cheer anyone up."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Newness by Musiq Soulchild. This song never pops up in peoples top 10 Musiq Soulchild songs and I have no idea why. It's amazing."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"FKA Twigs' album 'LP1'. It's both beautiful and weird."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Liam Gallagher's As You Were is such a great choice of title."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"'Gangnam Style' by PSY. I get that it's a rather hilarious song but I don't think it's supposed to be!"

The last record I bought was…

"'Love You Really' by Elli Ingram, such an essential purchase."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"'On The Rocks' by Louis Mattrs because I am Louis Mattrs."

The greatest record of all time is…

"I would say 'I Can't Make You Love Me' by Bonnie Raitt as it's one of the best songs ever written."
