My Record Collection by Madball's Freddy Cricien

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Freddy Cricien, frontman in hardcore veterans Madball, there's a lot more Coldplay in his vaults then you'd think...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"From my recollection it was Dougie Fresh And The Get Fresh Crew, featuring. Mc Ricky D (Slick Rick) - 'The Show'. It was a "single" and the B side was 'La Di Da Di', which became a hip hop classic."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Well, I grew up with all sorts of music from Rock to hip hop to Latin music. It all inspired me. But I have to give the biggest credit to Agnostic Front and the record was Victim In Pain. That was the record that really cemented my love for hardcore music and ultimately led to me being in a band."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"That's a tough one but I'll say Bob Marley - Legend. Been playing that one since I'm a kid and I still do. I love his early work even more but discovered that a little later. I play that tons as well."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Another hard one - there are way too many! If I have to pic one...... Coldplay - Parachutes."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"There are several of course, let's say - Johnny Cash - Collections."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Sinead O Connor - Throw Down Your Arms ....then again maybe it's not underrated? But a lot of people I know haven't heard it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"That's from one of my favorite hip-hop groups of all time, Public Enemy and It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back."

The record with my favourite title is…

"From the legendary Cro Mags. It's The Age Of Quarrel."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I don't know that everyone loves this record, but people in the heavy music world mention it a lot, not my thing. Anthrax - Among The Living."

The last record I bought was…

"Actually I just re bought it - Frank Sinatra - Nothing But The Best."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is..

"The new record from Devil In Me."

The greatest record of all time is…

"I'll go for Coldplay's A Rush Of Blood To The Head".

Madball's new album Harcore Lives is out now and can be previewed on the right of the page. The band will tour the UK in September and October, find full details here.
