My Record Collection by Milburn's Joe Carnall

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of indie types Milburn and their frontman Joe Carnall, let's see what he opts for...

Check out a selection of Joe's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"It Oasis's What's the Story (Morning Glory). I was nearly 10 when this came out and it was the biggest record released in my life up to that point. Bought with my pocket money saved from washing the pots."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine. All of the band members were/are technically brilliant. As kids, if we could play a Rage song we'd think we were pretty nifty."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"The Coral - The Coral. I could've listed this as the answer to most of these questions. Played it consistently since its release."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"The Cribs – Men's Needs, Women's Need's, Whatever. Never really used to be into the Cribs. Just didn’t get it. Then this came out. The melodies and hooks are really strong."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This is Radiohead's In Rainbows. Probably a standard response for a lot of people. The sounds are incredible. Masters of the studio."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Coldplay's Parachutes. Not the coolest selection but I'm not bothered. Some great tunes. This is before they started handing out flashing wristbands at their gigs."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak. Most of their records have great covers. Artwork by Jim Fitzpatrick."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I'd say The Small Faces' Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. Obvious really, don't know what it means but it sounds good."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Any Foo Fighters record.Mr. Grohl is a great drummer, look up Queens Of The Stone Age's 'Song for the Dead', just not a fan of his tunes."

The last record I bought was…

"William Onyeabor – Who is William Onyeabor? Long synthy dance numbers. Perfect for cleaning the house to."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"The next King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard record. The last three have been ace."

The greatest record of all time is…

"The Beatles' Revolver. No explanation necessary."

Milburn's new album Time is out now and available here in hmv's online store.
