My Record Collection by Miss May I's Ryan Neff

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week it's the turn of metallers Miss May I and their bassist Ryan Neff...

You can listen to a selection of Ryan's picks in the below playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This would be Alice In Chains - Facelift. The cover art caught me with the contorted face. I found it at Walmart in High School. CD's were my collection of choice back then until just now when I got my first record player and started digging vinyl..."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Tool - Aenima. I learned so many songs from this album and really honed in on my playing with Justin Chancellor’s bass parts."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"This is Queens Of The Stone Age's Lullabies To Paralyze. Same thing with this record. I was always a Queens Of The Stone Age fan and this record took it over the top for me. I was playing along to this at maximum volume daily!"

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Shinedown - The Sound Of Madness. One of my favourite singers and a record packed with memorable melodies. Always gets me moving."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This is White Zombie - Astro Creep 2000. I like the evil vibe and old school analogue sound mixed with the cool programming and samples on this. I had the pleasure of recording with Terry Date and used to ask him questions about this process weekly. He's was always cool enough to answer all my weird questions!"

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"This is Nirvana - In Utero. So many great industry challenging songs on here. I always thought it was a great "F**k You!" you to all the fans who hopped on the bandwagon."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Alice In Chains - Dirt. Iconic image for an amazing album. Alice In Chains knew how to do artwork!"

The record with my favourite title is…

"Again, Alice In Chains - Dirt. I love the dark lyric content and the title brings it all home."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I've never been a big Drake listener, it seems like everyone in the world is besides me though."

The last record I bought was…

"This was Mastodon - Emperor of Sand. Endless riffs as usual. Mastodon is one of the best bands around."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is..

"I was hoping for a new A Perfect Circle or Tool .... but who knows If that will happen… still hoping!"

The greatest record of all time is…

"Hard to say but my favourite is Astro Creep 2000 by White Zombie! It's a weekly, sometimes daily listen for me..."
