My Record Collection by Morning Parade's Steve Sparrow

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Morning Parade's Steve Sparrow, his band have just released their new album Pure Adulterated Joy (which you can preview on the right-hand side of the page), let's see what he picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Shaggy - Mr Boombastic, I bought Oasis's 'Roll With It' at the same time on cassette."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Muse - Origin Of Symmetry, I liked Showbiz, but learning to play, and then jamming the songs on Origin Of Symmetry was something else entirely. I feel like a guitar god every time I play the riff to 'Plug In Baby', 'Hypermusic' or Citizen Erased."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Radiohead - OK Computer. Addicted as a teenager, bought it over and over through countlessly losing/destroying/giving away my copy."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come. Pretty much any Sam Cooke."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Sigur Ros - Gong Endir, Weepy Wednesday. Have a good cry, get it out."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Too many to mention, different songs and records from every era of my musical upbringing Asleep In The Back by Elbow, Frengers by Mew, Open Heart Zoo by Martin Grech, Queen of Denmark by John Grant every once in a while a record just encapsulates you - actually it kicks you in the head and then the heart and then takes over your life, sometimes it doesn't connect or even reach the the public, that's why we have Pitbull. Maybe 'Highwayman' by Jimmy Webb. That's some pretty special songwriting and a giant lyrical concept."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Anything with Engelbert Humperdinck's face on it. I enjoy his perfectly formed bone structure."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I have a little w**k and I have a little cry by Kunt And The Gang."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Anything that Will I Am has had anything to do with."

The last record I bought was…

"PHOX by PHOX."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"New Alt J I guess, Father John Misty's 2nd album if he gets it out in time, Flying Lotus."

The greatest record of all time is…

"A personal favourite of mine is Radiohead's In Rainbows."
