My Record Collection by Muncie Girls' Lande Hekt

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Muncie Girls' singer Lande Hekt, let's see what she picks out...

You can check out some of Lande's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I'll go with the first ever vinyl I bought because I don't want to admit to the Bon Jovi CD. Oh crap. Anyway, it was Minor Threat's Out Of Step and it was from a record shop in Brighton..."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I don't know if it made me want to be in a band, but Hello Rockview by Less Than Jake was the album I was listening to the most when I got my first bass guitar. I think I also had a couple of the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes albums frequenting my Windows Media Player."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Recently every time I plug my phone in when I'm about to drive the Muncie Girls Express, the first thing to play (for alphabetical reasons) is Against Me!'s As the Eternal Cowboy and I always let it play out. So considering from when I was 16 to 18 I played that record every day, I'd say that has to be the one."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"When I was in college, unsurprisingly, my punctuality was at an all time low. This brought me much anxiety because if you were too late to lessons, you wouldn't get your £30 EMA for the week. So, stressed out and rushing to college through the park, I'd always listen to We Are Still Alive by Latterman and it made me think about other things. I listen to it less now, but on occasion I pop it on. Love it still."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I probably listen to 'I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning' by Bright Eyes the most when I'm feeling upset, although that always sends me into a funk and I start Spotifying the saddest songs of all time which is no use. Bright Eyes is to be approached with caution during times of reflection."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Griller by Ut is an amazing record. I never really hear anyone talking about it but it predates Sleater-Kinney and Excuse 17 which surprised me when I first heard it. It's really rough and obscure in parts, and it can be mesmerising I think."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"I really love the painting for The Woods by Sleater-Kinney. Very simple."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Pussy Whipped by Bikini Kill probably."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"There are a LOT of records that I can't get behind. Off the top of my head, I checked out Bon Iver's new record the other day and I must say I was not grabbed by it, despite huge amounts of overheard social media raving."

The last record I bought was…

"Well, it was bought for me, so maybe it doesn't count but Rips by Ex Hex. I was really into that Wild Flag record a few years ago and I'm glad Mary Timony carried on making great music."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"The Nerves by the Cut Ups. They're a band from Exeter and this'll be their fourth album. I've heard a load of the new songs live and I really want to hear them properly on record."

The greatest record of all time is…

"This is obviously a very hard question. I think Horses by Patti Smith could be the greatest."
