My Record Collection by New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of New Found Glory axeman Chad Gilbert, he's got lots of time for Green Day, They Might Be Giants and the Wicked soundtrack. Less time for the Foo Fighters...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

“The first time I remember saying to my Mom – ‘Mom I need to go out and get this record’ – was Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite For Destruction. I saw the video for ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ on MTV and I knew I needed to go and get that record.”

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

“Green Day – Dookie. It was all these great songs, but it showed you that you didn’t have to be some brilliant, crazy, amazingly technical virtuoso to write great songs.”

The record I've played more than any other is…

“They Might Be Giants – Lincoln. I listened to this record all the way through elementary school as I thought it was fun and goofy. Then, when I got older, I listened back to it and I realised how dark the lyrics were and I got into it in a whole different way.”

The record that always make me feel good is…

“I always turn to musicals, Little Shop Of Horrors and Wicked. I put them on, jam out and sing along.”

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

“Sunny Day Real Estate – How It Feels To Be Something On. Such a great record.”

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

“There are so many. But I think In Reverie by Saves The Day. It’s most people’s least favourite Saves The Day record, but I think it’s awesome. It’s really Beatlesy and Beach Boysy and so cool.”

The record with my favourite cover art is…

“I’d say Bjork’s Post, it’s her with all those crazy colours behind her, it’s just so cool.”

The record with my favourite title is…

“Madball – Dropping’ Many Suckers. Great title.”

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

“Foo Fighters. I don’t get the Foo Fighters. There are so many good rock and alternative bands and their songs just sound like traffic to me. I don’t know whether it’s me and growing up in Florida and being stuck in traffic and endlessly hearing them, but it just reminds me of traffic. I don’t see why they’re so big and so many awesome bands aren’t.”

The last record I bought was…

“There’s this hardcore band called Rude Awakening, I got their new record. It’s great.”

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

“I think Tegan and Sara are going to make a new one soon, I’d love to hear that. Their last record was really dance-pop and the previous one was really guitar-driven. I love every album they make, but I never know what album I’m going to get. So I’m excited to hear that.”

The greatest record of all time is…

“For myself, my favourite record, it’s Nirvana – Nevermind, I listened to that again the other day and it’s still unbelievable.”

New Found Glory's new album Resurrection is out now and can be previewed on the right of the page.
