My Record Collection by Palm Reader's Josh Redrup

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Palm Reader's Josh Redrup, let's see what he picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I think it may have been Hell is for Heroes - The Neon Handshake. I remember going into Woolworths with the sole purpose of buying that record. Still an amazing album!"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command. I remember my mate Aaron playing me ‘One Armed Scissor’ and just thinking, holy crap this is what it's all about. It opened my eyes in a big way."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"That's a hard one ... I find myself constantly going back to Converge - You Fail Me if I don't know what to listen to. That or Kate Bush - Hounds of Love."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Bonobo - Black Sands. We were lucky enough to see him do a live set a few years back when we played Pukklepop in Belgium, blew my tiny hungover mind."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Not that it's a negative record at all but probably Elvis Costello - My Aim is True. I'm a huge Costello fan, picked this record up on 12" from a car boot sale in Stoke for £2 years back. Bosh."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Basically any album by Reuben! Everything they did was great and they didn't get the recognition they deserved."

The record with my favorite cover art is…

"There's so many, but the one that sticks out for me is the special addition vinyl of Torche - Meanderthal It's just spectacular."

The record with my favorite title is…

"Ruiner - I Heard These Dudes are Assholes. Purely for the LOLz, great record."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is

"Basically anything by Brand New... I get a lot of hate for this as so many of my friends are die hard Brand New fans, but I just don't get it. Specifically The Devil & God are Raging Inside Me, gave it a few listens, meh, not for me."

The last record I bought was…

"The last record I went out and go on vinyl was the Touché Amoré/Self Defence Family collaboration record - Self Love. A really different record, both bands got into a studio together and crafted 2 songs together and they're both great. Check it out."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"Whatever it is Black Peaks are releasing!"

The greatest record of all time is…

"For me it's Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come. By far my favourite record of all time."

Palm Reader's new album Beside The Ones We Love is out now in hmv stores across the UK.
