My Record Collection by Paul Thomas Saunders

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of rising star Paul Thomas Saunders, let's see what he loves and loathes...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I think the first record I bought was some obscure discount compilation of Shadows songs. I don't think it was even played by The Shadows? One of those "The Shadows, performed by..." nightmares. "

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Quite proudly, it was EMF's 'Unbelievable'. I heard it in Hard Rock Cafe in Birmingham when I was 10 maybe? The riff in the chorus blew my tiny mind. I knew I was going to play guitar in a band."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Wish by The Cure."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Transmissions from the Satellite Heart by The Flaming Lips always makes me want to jump around like an orange haired free spirit."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Figure 8 by the Elliot Smith is a pretty good album to listen to when you're feeling sorry for yourself. It's the first thing I put on. It makes you feel okay for taking downtime."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"The La's - The La's. THEY'RE NOT A ONE HIT WONDER!"

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant is a pretty amazing cover, I like The Mouldy Peaches first album cover too."

The record with my favourite title is…

"The Smiths' The Queen is Dead. Just saying it gives me shivers."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Superunkown by Soundgarden. I had to look up what the album title was, but anything Chris Cornell related makes me want to tear my Cochlear Nerve out of my ear. It's just beige."

The last record I bought was….

"East India Youth's Total Strife Forever."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"The new Beck record. His new track 'Waking Light' is beautiful."

The greatest record of all time is…

"The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips. It's just a perfect album. Flawless."
