My Record Collection by Rolo Tomassi's James Spence

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Rolo Tomassi mainman James Spence, let's see what's in his collection...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I'm fairly sure it was Whats The Story? Morning Glory by Oasis."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"The album that made me want to play guitar was Enema Of The State by Blink 182. Wanting to be in a band followed soon after."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Probably Ideas Above Our Station by Hundred Reasons. I really overplayed it when I was younger. Revisited it recently and I still think it's terrific."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"This year, It's Album Time by Todd Terje has often led to very good times."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Recently its been The Man Who Died In His Boat by Grouper. It's wonderfully melancholic."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"This Afternoon's Malady by Jejune. Criminally overlooked mid 90's emo/shoegaze band."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Vaya by At The Drive-In. Its not particularly interesting, I've just always found the boombox image to be quite iconic and it was the first thing that came to mind!"

The record with my favourite title is…

"Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins. I love how overblown and dramatic the title is."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I can't think of specifics but I can't bear anything to do with Reggae."

The last record I bought was…

"Artery by Brontide. Heavily recommended."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"Past what's out already, the new Caribou record should be pretty special."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Almost impossible to answer but if I was pushed, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac would probably be up there."
