My Record Collection by Royal Blood's Ben Thatcher

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Royal Blood drummer Ben Thatcher, let's see what he goes for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

“It was Aqua’s Aquarium, I got that in Woolworths in Rusington. Good times.”

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

“Obvious answer, but Nirvana’s Nevermind, it’s still such a classic.”

The record I've played more than any other is…

“Our first album. It took us such a long time to mix it, we just heard it over and over again. And we have to play it every day.”

The record that always makes me feel good is…

“I love the Glass Animals record. How To Be A Human Being. Always puts me in a good mood.”

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

“I need a pick me up when I’m feeling down. It tends to be Queens Of The Stone Age.”

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

“Jungle. I know it did well, but people still just underestimate how brilliant it is.”

The record with my favourite cover art is…

“I love Jay-Z and Kanye’s Watch The Throne. All that gold, it’s a great image.”

The record with my favourite title is…

“I can’t look past Songs For The Deaf. Queens.”

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

“Rag N’Bone Man. Don’t get it.”

The last record I bought was…

“Kendrick Lamar’s Damn. It’s astounding. That and Queens Of The Stone Age’s Villains.”

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

“Whenever Jungle finally get round it, I’ll be all over that.”

The greatest record of all time is…

“Obvious answer, but I’d have to say it's Sgt Pepper.”

Royal Blood's new album How Did We Get So Dark? is out now and available here in hmv's online store.
