My Record Collection by Spark

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of rising electro-popper Spark, let's see what's in her record collection...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Mariah Carey's Greatest Hits [2001], I was about 8 years old and it’s as good now as it was then."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Spice – Spice Girls, who didn’t want to be in the Spice Girls though? I think every 80s and 90s girl has home videos of them dancing to 'Wannabe' and 'Who Do You Think You Are?'."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Tracy Chapman – Tracy Chapman, the first time I heard 'Fast Car' I was stunned, I hadn’t heard anything sound like that before."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys, 'Good Vibrations' especially. How can that not make you happy?"

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Recovery – Eminem, I don’t know if it makes me feel better or worse, but it makes me feel understood."

The record I think is the most underrated is…

"Is Your Love Big Enough? - Lianne La Havas, how Lianne isn’t a household name all over the world by now confuses me."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Celebration - Madonna, Mr Brainwash reworked Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe for this cover and it’s perfect."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not – Arctic Monkeys, that says it all really."

The last record I bought was…

"Home - Rudimental, 'Not Giving In' and 'Free' are my favourites I think.. Everything is so bright and colourful and full of life, the lyrics are so uplifting and anthemic. It’s a beautiful thing."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is…

"Kenzie May - She's an artist that you'll definitely be hearing this year, who just so happens to be one of my best friends. Her music is necessary, I can't wait for everyone to hear it."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Bad – Michael Jackson, this was a harrrrd one! It kind of has to be Michael Jackson though, doesn’t it? It was tough to pick between Thriller and Bad once I finally decided it basically had to be Michael Jackson.."

Spark's new EP First is out now. You can stream it below...
