My Record Collection by Surf City's Davin Stoddard

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Surf City mainman Davin Stoddard, let's see what he's got for us...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I'm not sure. I think it might have been Oasis's Definitely Maybe, or maybe it was Green Day's Dookie? I still like those records. Even Dookie..."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"The Clean's Anthology. It's got all the hits.."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I'll go for Love - Forever Changes., Maybe it's because I left my records in the sun and this one is one of the only ones that hasn’t warped."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"Neu!- Self Titled - I like what Iggy Pop had to say about Neu - "It allows your thoughts to flow. It allows you motions that come from within and occupy the active parts of your mind" It's some sort of a pastoral psychedelicism."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk, it's great to go to for walk to and find your way back to the middle path."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"That would be Sandanista by The Clash. It's got so many sweet songs on here, you've got 'Bank Robber', 'Charlie Don't Surf', 'Magnificent Seven', so many..."

The record with my favorite cover art is…

"I'd say George Harrison - Dark Horse."

The record with my favorite title is…

"I'd say Darkness On The Edge Of Town' by Bruce Springsteen. So much mystery and intrigue."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Hmm. Tough one. I didn't really get the hype around Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It weirded me out how it almost seemed like prerequisite that you if you liked music you had to like this."

The last record I bought was…

"I haven't bought a record in a while. It is the recession after all. But my girlfriend bought a Prince Greatest Hits tape for the car and it’s been rocking on repeat for a while now."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"New Order are apparantly putting out a new album. Can't wait to hear that."

The greatest record of all time is…

"An impossible question to answer, but I'll go for The Clash's London Calling."

Surf City's new album Jekyll Island is out now and can be previewed on the right-hand side of the page.
