My Record Collection by The Devil Wears Prada's Mike Hranica

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of metalcore types The Devil Wears Prada's frontman Mike Hranica, let's see what he picks out...

You can check out some of Mike's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I think it was U2, probably an early 'Best Of' compilation."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I've not really got answer for this. I never really aspired to be in a band: I just went to shows, made friends, and ended up in a sort of coincidental opportunity."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Hmm. Not sure. I'd say Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights, I've played that a lot."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"I like listening to aggressive music when I’m feeling good. Maybe something like High on Fire or some power violence like Mammoth Grinder..."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"That really depends on what kind of down I’m feeling. I remember when I was going through a really tough time in my life, I repeatedly listening to Changes by David Bowie. It’s a best of comp."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Most of the music that truly speaks to me isn’t very well known, so I’d consider most of my favorite work to be underrated. If I had say one I'd chose Young Widows' In And Out Of Youth And Lightness."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Probably anything by Shellac, especially Dude Incredible or Excellent Italian Greyhound."

The record with my favourite title is…

"I'd say Sometimes I Sit And Think And Sometimes I Just Sit by Courtney Barnett. Great title."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I can’t back Kanye, Drake, or The Weeknd. I know they’re doing creative things, but I can’t stand hearing it."

The last record I bought was…

"It was Bulldozer by Big Black, but the newest release I bought is Fires Within Fires by Neurosis."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"I’m not sure if anything is on my list that’s yet to come out this year. I will say Skeleton Tree by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds was my most anticipated this year."

The greatest record of all time is…

"I really can’t say for definite, but The Birthday Party's Prayers On Fire is up there for me, though."
