My Record Collection by The Districts' Robby Grote

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of indie eccentrics The Districts and their frontman Robby Grote, let's see what they choose...

Check out a selection of Robby's picks in this playlist...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Probably LFO or something like that. The summer time jams of a prepubescent boy."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Nirvana's Nevermind was a wondrous thing to listen to as a young boy dreaming of playing in a rock and roll band."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Leonard Cohen's New Skin for The Old Ceremony. I love this record, it has been played many times into my little ear holes."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"This is Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) by Brian Eno, I love Brian Eno, I wish I was Brian Eno, don’t we all..."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Lee Moses - Time & Place. This record is so good and happy it makes me want to bounce."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"It's got to be Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. I keep asking people if they’ve heard it and they’re like no what’s that. It’s really good."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Total Control - Typical System. It’s really aesthetically great and the picture itself is a crow attacking a dove that was released by the pope."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Yo La Tengo's And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. Great title that’s for sure. Great album as well."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Paul Simon- Graceland. It's just the absolute worst thing really."

The last record I bought was…

"It was Song Cycles by Van Dyke Parks. I really like that album and got it in a physical format just recently for the first time."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"The new Grizzly Bear album should be pretty darn tight considering how good the few songs are they’ve released."

The greatest record of all time is…

"I have a really hard time making definitive statements like these, to be honest."

The Districts' new album Popular Manipulations is released on August 10th and available to pre-order here.
