My Record Collection by Theory Of A Deadman's Tyler Connolly

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Theory Of A Deadman frontman Tyler Connolly, who is about to return with his band's brand new album SaVages, their fifth studio album in all, which has been produced by rock supremo Howard Benson.

He's picked out some great records, but, Kanye West, please avert your eyes...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"U2's War. It's still one of my all time favourite records. Bloody Sunday was one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar."

The record that made me want to be in a band was...

"Led Zeppelin II - This was the first vinyl I ever listened to in my basement. It made me stop listening to gangster rap! Thank you, Dad!"

The record I've played more than any other is...

"Joe Satriani - 'Flying in a Blue Dream' - People used to get in my car when I was a teenager and roll their eyes. One girl called him Joe Saturelli. I kicked her to the curb."

The record that always make me feel good is...

"Led Zeppelin - 'Going To California' - A great song for driving. It always puts a smile on my face. Also it made me realize that you didn't have to be heavy to be a great rock band."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is...

"Jeff Buckley - 'Last Goodbye'. He made one record and disturbingly drowned in the Mississippi. But still one of my fave singers."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is...

"Silverchair - 'Diorama' - Go get it!!! Front to back, it's a record that was underrated for sure. We got to play a show with them years ago in Germany and I watched the whole show side stage. I wish they would keep making music."

The record with my favourite cover art is...

"Storm Thorgerson’s Pink Floyd album covers - The echelon of graphic art. An album's artwork is the first thing you see before you get to hear what's inside. Pink Floyd and Storm hit the nail on the head."

The record with my favourite title is...

"Faith No More - 'Album of the Year'. Almost an ego driven inside joke by an awesome band. I got to see their final show in their hometown of San Francisco on their reunion tour. Amazing, start to finish. It takes a lot of guts to call your record that, but if someone was going to do it, it would be Mike Patton!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is...

"My Mom said if you don't have anything nice to say, then say something about Kanye West! So KANYE WEST. Yeezus Christ, talk about overrated. Remember kids, if you hype yourself enough, you presumably become god."

The last record I bought was...

"Dr Harry Von Bozia - 'Doctors Orders'. It's our drum tech's own record. It's something he put together between tours. What a talented guy. We should be tech'ing for him!!"

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2014 is...

"The new Slipknot! Our label mates' new record and very anticipated. We did a whole tour with Stone Sour and they were all great guys. I'm curious to see what Corey, Jim and the rest of the guys can purge out of themselves!"

The greatest record of all time is...

"Theory Of A Deadman - 'SaVages'. Hehehehe! No actually, that's a loaded question. You could say the next Led Zeppelin, or the lost Beatles record, but really it's anything except Kanye West."

Theory Of A Deadman's new album SaVages is released on Monday (July 28th) and can be pre-ordered now from hmv stores.
