My Record Collection by Thy Art Is Murder's Andy Marsh

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Thy Art Is Murder's Andy Marsh, let's see how gloomy we can get...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"The first record I ever bought with my own money was definitely Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, still one of my favourite records to this day."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Probably Parkway Drives early EP/splits and Killing With a Smile. Those guys were local to me and would play Brisbane a couple times a month. it made the reality of playing in a band more immediate and more possible seeing a bunch of guys doing it from just down the road."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Over the years probably Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik or Dream Theater's live at Budokan. The first one is just a collection of great songs written by a collection of geniuses. The thought that John Frusciante wrote under the bridge when he was 21 kills me."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"I don't play music to make me feel good."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Anything by Muse. Showbiz through to Absolution. That band is one the most crushingly heavy bands of all time, the meld of music and emotion really affects me."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Anything by a band called Dredg and another band called mewithoutyou. I love everything they've done and I don't know too many people who have heard of them."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Fit for an Autopsy's Hellbound cover artwork, whoever they got to do that is awesome, I really love the colour scheme."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Reign in Blood by Slayer, the ultimate thrash album."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Almost everything. Feelgood music just feels like poison to me, I'm a big of a grouch I guess."

The last record I bought was…

"I preordered my own, our record Holy War that's out this month. Apparently it's good luck."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is..

"The new Muse record Drones. I've only heard one single so far, but I bet it's a banger front to back."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Absolution by Muse, it was the band hitting their stride and making some of the coolest and most original music I've heard. They are the greatest band of my generation."
