My Record Collection by Tindersticks' David Boulter

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Tindersticks' David Boulter, let's see what he picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"Either a Captain Scarlet/Thunderdirds LP or Holst - The Planets (conducted by Bernard Herrmann) I was only six, I can't remember which came first..."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I'd like to say Roxy Music - Roxy Music. But it was probably Crazy Horses - The Osmonds. They seemed to have so much fun. I wanted to be Donny."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I've had the Nancy and Lee album (Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood) since I was about six too. I imagine it's the one I've played the most."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"The Very Best Of John Barry - The Polydor Years. It stirred something in me musically when I first heard it. and still does. I never tire of it."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I generally make my own music when I'm down. It's a way of exorcising the demons..."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Probably my first solo record. Which is why I haven't released it yet!"

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"The Beatles White Album. They weren't the legend they are now in the mid seventies. i thought they were just another sixties group. I remember buying it in a junk shop with the black inner sleeves, the photo's and the poster. It opened at the top too. I was obsessed by it for a long time."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Scott 4. It is what it is!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I couldn't really name one. I gave up being frustrated by popular taste a long time ago."

The last record I bought was…

"Den Sorte Skole - Indians & Cowboys. I haven't had chance to play it yet. But I was impressed by Lektion lll, I keep finding something new in it."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"I don't know yet. I usually find things after everybody else. But it's nice when you get surprised. When a record jumps on you from nowhere."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Impossible! But today it's Bob Marley. I was watching Bob Marley and the Wailers doing Stir It Up on the Old Grey Whistle Test recently. Fasinating. Genius. Magic!"

Tindersticks' new album The Waiting Room is released on January 22nd and is available to pre-order on the right-hand side of the page.
