My Record Collection by Trixie Whitley

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Trixie Whitley, let's see what's she picks out...

(You can listen to a selection of tracks from Trixie's picks in this playlist).

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is Little Richard - Tutti Frutti. I never was in to traditional children's music as a child, I likely didn't buy the cassette with my own money as I remember being only like 4 or 5 but in my mind nothing could beat Little Richard at the time."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"This is Prince - Purple Rain. Growing up with a lot of Prince records in the house, he was the main reason I wanted to play drums and other instruments myself."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I'll choose Eric Satie. Satie has always been my ultimate comfort music which I often play either before going to bed, in the morning while I'm just waking up or even in dressing rooms right before a show."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"This is Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions - Anthology. If sunshine could be translated to music it would be Curtis."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This is Joni Mitchell- Blue. Her music and words have simply offered such a sense kindredness and healing during harder times."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Latin Playboys - Latin Playboys. This is most definitely one of my top 10 albums I could not live without, just every aspect of this music is so satisfying to me it never get's old."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Patti Smith's Horses. Timeless and classic, everything you want a record cover to be."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Iggy Pop - Lust For Life. What more does one need to say?!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Too many to name, don't even get me started."

The last record I bought was…

"These are Deerhoof - La Isla Bonita and Chelsea Wolfe- Abyss. Currently listening to both of these records on repeat."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

"PJ Harvey's upcoming record. There are very few artists whom I will blindly buy their records before even hearing anything, Miss Polly Jean in undeniably one of them."

The greatest record of all time is…

"David Bowie- Hunky Dory. Impossible not to mention him, no language can touch how much he so generously gave through his artistry."

Trixie Whitley's new album Porta Bohemia is out now and available to preview and purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
